CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Associated Artists of Pittsburgh is seeking exhibition proposals for our gallery space in Lawrenceville. Exhibition proposal submissions must predominantly feature the work of current Associated Artists members and work that has not previously been in an Associated Artists exhibition.

Application fee: First application FREE for members. (Free member application link provided to member’s email. If you cannot find the member application link, please email aap@aapgh.org.) $25 fee for additional entry link can be found below.

Application Requirement: The application consists of an application form and two PDF submissions.

  • Written proposal: 5-page max

  • Images of artworks or sketches of proposed work: 5-page max.
    Note that for proposed juried shows the images PDF is not required.

Each proposal application should include and/or address the following:

  • Curatorial concept and proposed layout design
    The floor plan of the gallery is provided below. Applicants are encouraged to utilize the floor plan as part of their application process to demonstrate feasibility.

  • Your preferred exhibition date: September 6–October 31, 2025; May 1–June 12, 2026; or September 12–October 30, 2026. (Please note your preferred dates in your application. Your preferred date is not guaranteed, and dates are subject to change at the discretion of AAP. We are currently only accepting proposals for exhibitions in 2025 and 2026 programming season.)

  • Artwork identifying information (title, dimensions, medium, year of creation, and price) or proposed identifying information for future work. If you are proposing a juried show or if you are proposing to serve as jury, please provide potential guidance for selection.

  • Photos of existing or sketches of future work being proposed  (n/a for juried show proposals) 

  • Exhibiting artist(s) names (n/a for juried show proposals). Please note that applications that do not feature predominantly current AAP members will not be considered.

  • Identify the main contact for the exhibition: lead artist, curator, and/or juror 

  • Any expected additional expenses outside of the sample budget provided.
    Exhibition budget provided below.

Brief terms and conditions: Submissions without the required exhibition information cannot be evaluated. The following materials are restricted from entry: live or dead plant materials, organic materials such as food products that will decompose during the exhibit, and any material that shows evidence of insect infestation or mold growth. For film and other similar forms, artists must provide the necessary equipment needed to view the film for the duration of the exhibition. All submitted work must be available for the duration of the exhibition and may be used for marketing purposes without further permission.

All sales will be handled by Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. Associated Artists will collect the list price from any purchaser of the work and retain for itself a commission equal to 40% of the list price. Within 30 days of the processed sale, Associated Artists will remit the 60% of the list price to the artist member. Further details will be included in the contract upon acceptance.

If exhibition is accepted, AAP will provide the following:

  • Exhibition stipend 

  • Drinks and light snacks for an opening reception

  • Tools necessary for installation and de-installation, labels for artworks

  • Marketing and online promotion

  • Insurance for exhibited artwork

  • Staff to operate gallery hours and handle sales

If exhibition is accepted, the Applicant(s) is/are responsible for the following:

  • Installing and de-installing the exhibition in the allotted time

  • Transporting the work to and from the gallery

  • Providing additional food or drink for reception, if desired
