Lorrie Anne Minicozzi: April 2025

Originally from the North Shore of Long Island in NY, Lorrie Anne Minicozzi transplanted to Colorado for 10 years before settling in Pittsburgh, PA. Minicozzi has been a professional portrait artist and art instructor for over 30 years. Receiving her MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2024 transformed Minicozzi’s traditional 2-dimensional form to 3-dimensional mixed-medium. In her immersive depictions of the theatrical, Minicozzi produces large-scale installations, sculptures, drawings and paintings reflecting her cathartic interaction between personal introspection, the environment, and society.

I have always esteemed the artist as storyteller. Feeling that it was their mission to dissect and illustrate emotions and events, I believe that it is the artist who imparts narrative and incites the imagination. I employ my craft as a cathartic illumination on personal childhood trauma, mental illness and political anxiety.

With an intermingling of traditional and contemporary art genres, I fabricate realms from personal experiences and the societal climate. Using foam and wood, integrated with a drawn or painted work, each composite intermingles 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional realities. The synthesis results in an intricately detailed installation that reads like a cinematic scene. Provocatively diorama-like, each scene is enhanced by lighting, sound, fragrance and tactility. Exploring architecture, interior design and construction through these sculptures weaves each installation into the fabric of my home studio – now too large to be moved from my studio and dusted regularly.
