Lauren Braun: March 2023
Lauren Braun is an artist and certified mindfulness facilitator based in Pittsburgh, PA. Originally from Buffalo, NY, Lauren earned a BFA in Art Photography from Syracuse University where she was active with LightWork and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Since moving to Pittsburgh in 2007, Lauren’s studio practice complimented work at non-profit organizations such as the Pittsburgh Jewish Film Festival and Dreams of Hope. Her work has been included in exhibitions, public art projects, and window displays. She has participated in a variety of artist residencies including 2021 Tough Art @ Home with Children’s Museum Pgh and the Pittsburgh Glass Center’s Idea Furnace. Her work is included in the collections of the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia and PNC Bank.
My practice consists of researching images and creating my own library of collage materials in a cyclical process of drawing and painting, cutting out and arranging. I experiment with a range of wet and dry materials to create mixed media collages, delicate mobiles, and tabletop objects. My process explores themes of transformation, adaptation, and meditation. I’m inspired by nature, the organic shapes and endless variations of seashells, the Art Deco Movement, constructed photography and the women artists of Surrealism.
