Artist Statement
Scott’s work is rooted in tradition, drawn from life and constructed with imagination. Working in both a representational and non-representational manner he produces two distinct bodies of work. His figurative paintings are an assembly of images and style with attention to the shapes in the shadows and the story in the reflections that weave a narrative landing squarely within our collective memory. With a focus on color and feel, his abstract work celebrates and challenges the canon of abstract expressionism while resonating with emotional presence. Scott hopes that each new painting is a step forward. When successful, one piece will inform the next and allow it to become something entirely new.
