John Y. Winberg, Sr.
John Y. Winberg, Sr, age 97, of Mars, passed away on Wednesday evening, August 2, 2023 at AHN Wexford Hospital.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 28, 1926, he was the son of the late Carl and Elsie Yochem Winberg.
John proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps flying B-17s as a rear tail gunner during W.W. II in the South Pacific Theater.
An artist, John had been the Senior Vice President and Director of Education at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
Surviving is a son, John Winberg, Jr. of Valencia, three daughters, Jay Berardini (Vincent) of Valencia and Becky Meals and Rachel Winberg-Hinch (Robert), both of Butler, his grandchildren, Daniel Berardini, Alison and Emily Hinch and Sydney(Tommy Duprey) and Jordan Meals and his great grandchildren, Breydon Kisner and Sienna Meals Duprey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma C. Gutmann Winberg, who he married on September 18, 1946 and who died on August 31, 2018, by a grandson, Jayson Berardini and by his brother, Carl Winberg, Jr.
