2025 WOPHA Artist-in-Residence Program (Due Mar. 31)

2025 WOPHA Artist-in-Residence Program
Deadline: March 31st, 2025

Since its founding in 2020, the WOPHA Artist-in-Residence program has been a vital space for supporting lens-based women artists, providing a month-long opportunity to focus on creative development and connect with Miami’s dynamic cultural landscape. This program offers artists the opportunity to step away from daily demands and immerse themselves in an environment built for research, experimentation, and community engagement.

The residency, hosted in September 2025 in partnership with El Espacio 23, a prominent contemporary art space founded by collector and philanthropist Jorge M. Pérez, takes place in the heart of Miami’s Allapattah neighborhood. Housed within a beautifully renovated 28,000-square-foot warehouse, El Espacio 23 serves as both an exhibition space and an artist residency hub, featuring three apartments and a shared workspace. The residency provides comfortable living and working accommodations, including a private kitchen, laundry, bathroom, and a shared studio, balancing personal focus and collaborative possibilities.

As part of the program, each artist receives a $2,500 stipend to support material purchases, ground transportation, and meals, along with $3,000 for exhibition production. Round-trip airfare is also provided to ensure artists have everything they need to fully immerse themselves in the experience. In return, artists are expected to commit to the entire month and take an active role in engaging with Miami’s vibrant art community.

This independently driven residency offers the freedom and space to develop a new or ongoing project, conduct research, and connect with curators, collectors, and fellow artists. Beyond studio work, the program encourages artists to explore Miami’s rich cultural offerings and build lasting relationships with the city’s creative networks.

During the residency, artists will take part in a group exhibition at Green Space Miami, a notable contemporary art venue in the city. This public exhibition provides a meaningful platform for artists to showcase their work, connect with new audiences, and expand the reach of their practice.
