2025 Cheteyan Scholar Program - Contemporary Craft

Businesswoman and Contemporary Craft past board member and president, Judy Cheteyan has been an invaluable asset to the arts community in Pittsburgh. Both Judy and her husband, Michael, believe that the arts and education make for a stronger community; therefore, affordable exposure to these is crucial for all citizens. Ms. Cheteyan is a strong proponent and supporter of our outreach programs: “It’s really a way to make the connections with young people to bring out their talent and allow them to develop their creativity.”

To foster growth in the arts arena, the couple has developed the Cheteyan Scholar program, an annual summer scholarship which will be offered under the auspices of Contemporary Craft. This paid scholarship will provide a college student with the opportunity to gain professional experience within a nationally and internationally known contemporary craft organization. This three-month internship is for an arts management/art education residency. The program will provide the student with professional and career development and practical experience with professional artists and arts management personnel.

The internship will center on the following areas of focus and corresponding duties:

Exhibitions (50%) Responsibilities will include assistance with registration, catalogue editing, preparation of text and labels of Contemporary Craft’s 2025-2026 exhibitions. Duties include correspondence with artists and gallery contacts; shipping, handling and on-site transportation of objects using museum-approved procedures; work with exhibition staff on the administration of community/education programs in affiliation to the exhibition; assist with other projects as assisgned.

Marketing (50%) Assist with implementation of marketing strategies to promote Contemporary Craft’s 2025-2026 exhibition schedule regionally and nationally; assist with other exhibition focused marketing projects as assisgned.

Qualifications

• This scholarship is dedicated to full-time undergraduate and graduate students who are currently studying craft, art education, or arts management.

• Excellent research, writing, speaking and organizational skills

• Good verbal communication skills • Accuracy, attention to detail and discretion

• Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite a plus.

• Ability to work without excessive supervision, break down large projects into small tasks, meet deadlines, multi-task
