Sean Beauford, curator

Curator, Sean Beauford
Sean Beauford is a Mansfield, Ohio native, working in Pittsburgh as an independent curator, and producer for Kelly Strayhorn Theater. Most of his work revolves around community engagement and speaking to populations that are often overlooked within the arts. Last year he had a full exhibition at the August Wilson Center featuring local and international artists, a pop-up at Ace Hotel, and was named one of WHIRL Magazine's 13 Under 30. Recently he was awarded an Advancing Black Arts grant from The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments to create a public photo installation in East Liberty that pays tribute to the history of the neighborhood.

A few words from the curator:
"I like to work with Pittsburgh-based artists whenever possible, and I think championing our own is important. Having the opportunity to work with AAPGH, which has uplifted Pittsburgh artists for over 100 years, is an honor. I often work with groups of artists, so the process for this exhibition is a familiar one, except that this time I'm developing a theme around the artists' work. Usually the theme comes first then the art follows. Fortunately, I'm working with a group of talented artists who have a clear vision, which helps a lot." - Sean Beauford
