Artist Statement

Rita graduated from Chatham College (now Chatham University) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art and worked as a commercial artist. She is a founder, charter member, and past president of the Penn Art Association and serves as secretary of the Penn Hills Arts Council.

Mrs. Spalding artwork has won awards at both the national and regional levels. She volunteers with the Penn Hills Service Association and at the William E. Anderson Library. She taught art at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Edgewood. Mrs. Spalding is a member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society (where she was a past board member), Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Society of Artists.

Currently (November 2010):

* Won a jurors award, Penn Art Association's annual art show at Penn Hill Library (November 2010)

* Rita Lee Spalding has had her watercolor collage painting chosen for the Latroobe Elementary School art collection. She also is in the juried Southwestern Pennsylvania Annual Exhibition at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier from November 12, 2010-February 12, 2011.

* President of the Penn Hebron Garden Club in Penn Hills.
